cookie mix gift sack | easy DIY Christmas gift idea

So I know information technology's not even Halloween, only I'm already thinking about Christmas! Halloween's fun, but Christmas is my vacation. I'k the 'heed to Christmas music all year' kind of person, much to my teenager'southward dismay. And my big goal this twelvemonth is to get my Christmas gifts made or purchased early then I tin relax and enjoy the season with my family. Sure, I've had the same goal every year for the by 15 years and haven't actually done it one time, but hey, at that place's a showtime time for everything, correct?

Inside the cute flannel bag is a quart size ziptop bag full of Double Chocolate Mint Cookie mix. These make great gifts for the holiday flavor because they are relatively inexpensive, and who doesn't similar cookies? Plus, a cookie mix is frequently more than appreciated than a plate of cookies since nosotros're inundated with treats during the holidays and it'due south nice to exist able to bake these up afterwards.

I actually first shared cookie mix gift sacks on my weblog iv years ago, but they weren't the cutest things in the whole globe. Terminal year I saw these souvenir sacks from Gloat Creativity and I knew I needed to upwardly my game a bit. (Click on over there to encounter a bunch of different cookie mix gift sack variations!)

Today I'g sharing an easy-to-put-together recipe for a Double Chocolate Mint Cookie mix, instructions for sewing up these cute flannel sacks, and a gratuitous printable tag that says "'Tis the Season (for cookies)" on the front and gives mixing/baking directions for the cookies on the back.

Allow's start with the sacks! I used 1 grand of 45 inch broad flannel, which gave me enough textile for 8 cookie sacks (these little sacks would be great for wrapping other small items as well!). Cutting the fabric as shown in the diagram below to get 8 strips that are each 8 inches wide and 22 inches long.

Once you have your strips, you can fray the brusque edges by pulling out a few of the cantankerous threads, as shown below.

Plaid flannel fabric strip folded in half, with seams marked to create a sack

Then fold the strip in half and stitch down each side, using 1/2 inch seam allowance, every bit shown in the photograph higher up. When you get to the last inch earlier the fold, angle in and sew across at a diagonal, as shown above. Backstitch at the beginning and terminate of your stitching. BTW, thread color doesn't really affair (I but used white). Turn the sacks right side out.

Ok, hither's how you make the Double Chocolate Mint Cookie mix. For each mix, you will need:

  • ane quart sized ziptop baggie
  • 1 Duncan Hines Devil's Food cake mix (other brands will work, but I similar Duncan Hines all-time)
  • 1 cup of semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 3/four cup of mint pieces (either Andes mint pieces or Mint flavored chips will piece of work)
  • 1/4 loving cup of baking cocoa (optional, but it makes the cookies richer)

Cookie mix ingredients: quart size plastic bag, cake mix, cocoa, chocolate chips, andes mint chips

Simply measure out the ingredients and pour them all into your ziptop bag.

Side by side, print out the gift tags. Download them by clicking hither, and print at 100% or total size. I printed mine onto kraft colored cardstock. Y'all'll need some twine to tie up the sacks, too as any other small-scale items you lot'd similar to add (I got measuring spoons for $2 from Winco and a Christmas floral pick for $.75 at Hobby Lobby, but these are definitely optional).

Cutting out the tags and glue them together so the saying is on 1 side and the instructions are on the other.

Hither's a quick video that shows me assembling the bags:

Equally for cost, these are non dirt cheap, but they're likewise not expensive compared to many other handmade gifts. For the cookie mix and sack, plan on about $5 per gift if you're making multiples. The measuring spoons and floral pick I added brought the total for each sack up to about $viii. I think information technology'south worth it for how adorable they plow out.
