Wagyu Beef Cooked Korean Spicy Noodles Cooked
Ram-Don (aka Jjapaguri) is fabricated past cooking Jjapagetti and Neoguri noodles together in i pot. It'southward yummy chewy noodles in a Jjajang sauce that has a hint of spicy udon season. This dish appears in the movie Parasite and if you honey Jjajangmyeon and so y'all will love this combination.
Jjapaguri or Ram-Don is not something that grew up with. I heard nearly it a few years ago and basically it's a genius combination of Jjajangmyeon (Chapagetti 짜빠게티) and Spicy Udon (Neoguri 너구리) with no broth just still all the yummy spiciness of the udon broth.
Personally, I cannot eat much of these instant noodles due to my gluten sensitivity but Chapagetti was one of my favorite instant noodles equally a kid and is nevertheless my daughter's favorite to this day. I always take to brand sure I take a few when she comes abode to visit.
I've posted a quick recipe of this many years ago in my iii easy ramen recipes mail service but I felt it deserved a separate mail – partly due to the latest craze of the Korean motion picture Parasite and how this dish appears in the picture merely mainly because I wanted to share some improvements I made to the recipe.
At present, for some reason, this dish was translated every bit Ram-Don in the subtitle. I guess for Ramen + Udon?? Only in Korean, it has always been chosen every bit Jjapaguri = Jjapa(getti) + (Neo)Guri.. and so now you know.
Koreans swallow the most Ramyeon 라면 (instant noodles) in the earth!
Did you know that Koreans consume the about Ramyeon per person, per yr? According to information produced in 2015, Koreans eat about 75 ramyeon per person per year whereas Indonesians swallow about 50, and so #three is Nihon with 43 and #4 is Mainland china with 36 per person per twelvemonth.
Ramyeon (Ramen) wasn't always a poor human being's food
When Samyang Ramyeon was starting time introduced in the threescore'due south, ramyeon price about 10 cents (which is about 2 dollars at today's charge per unit) while an everyday Korean repast like Kimchi Jjigae Baekban was 30 cents and Jjajangmyeon was twenty cents at the Chinese restaurants. So, dorsum and so, it was actually almost a treat for poor people.
Now, a half a century later, the cost of most ramyeon in Korea is still under yard won which is less than a dollar, whereas the average cost of Jjajangmyeon at restaurants is at present well-nigh 5000 won (according to Korean government study). Which makes ramyeon a very cheap meal. Thus, in recent years, esp. after the 70's when these noodles started to get mass-produced, many poor students and workers lived on these instant noodles, eating them about every day.
Ram-Don and Hanwoo Korean Beefiness in movie Parasite
A cheap Jjapaguri (Ram-Don) dish topped with expensive Korean beef (hanwoo 한우) is a very interesting take past Managing director Bell. This dish symbolizes the rich Park family trying to glamorize a cheap dish – since simply a manifestly Jjapaguri is not proficient enough for her son.
At present, is this realistic? Yes, definitely, to some extent. Koreans (particularly the ultra-rich) beloved to put glamor in everything. BTW, honestly, the addition of the steak really does non piece of work all that great in my opinion..simply my add-on of green onions makes it much ameliorate!
Anyway, note that although the subtitle but mentioned adding Sirloin on top, in Korean, the maid is instructed to add Korean Summit Sirloin Beef cut (Hanwoo Chaekkeutssal 한우 채끝살) to the noodles. You may non call back much if you lot just think – steak.. only in Korea, the price divergence between Hanwoo (Beef from cow raised in Korea) and imported United states or Australia beef is pretty huge.
Korean beef is commonly about more than than twice as expensive every bit imported beefiness. According to the Korean Agricultural dept's study (2013-2017), a Hanwoo Short Ribs cost ₩4791 won per 100g whereas US frozen ribs cost ₩2294 which is less than one/2 the toll. And then naturally, Korean Hanwoo beef is eaten but on very special occasions for most people in Korea unless you are crazy rich like the Parks in Parasite and can hands throw the meat into whatsoever dish.
FYI, If you want to acquire more about Korean beef cuts, I accept a great mail service here.
So, to stay in line with the 'ridiculousness' of this dish,😜 I decided to employ the most expensive 🤑plate I have which is this cute Hungarian hand-painted dish by Herend (inherited from my mother in law) along with our silvery chopsticks. My mother-in-law normally lives a very frugal life but she likes to buy the BEST when she travels. And then now, I'1000 the lucky casher of these cute dishes she bought on her trip to Hungary many many years agone. Give thanks y'all, mom! 💕
To serve this very cheap Ram-Don in this very very expensive plate.. it's pretty simply kind of ridiculous right?? LOL.. 🤩😍
